Aids in Africa Too soon to claim victory

The Durban International Conference on AIDS, “Access Equity Rights Now,” came to a close the other day, attended by about 18,000 delegates.

Mozambique New support for youth in the fight against Aids

Starting on August 1, we’ll be able to count on the support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation to help the youth of Beira in the fight against AIDS. Our focus will be on raising awareness and peer education to encourage testing and combat the fear and stigma associated with HIV.

Fight against Aids in Tanzania Commitment and new strategies

Tanzania has a very high rate of HIV/AIDS, 5% according to WHO estimates. Doctors with Africa Cuamm has been fighting against the disease here for over thirty years. Most recently we developed a pilot project focused on the “Test and Treat” model, adhering to new international guidelines.

After last week’s clashes, a ceasefire has been called in Juba, and, for the first time, CUAMM’s staff left the compound where they had been “hibernating” for several days. Valerio Granello describes the air of apparent calm, though the entire country is still wracked with tensions.

Angola Congress of the Angolan Society of Diabetology

Doctors with Africa Cuamm took part in the Congress of the Angolan Society of Diabetology. Attending were Doctors Eric Lonla, Joseph Nsuka and Sonia Ezaquiela, who are working on a project to improve diabetes and hypertension diagnoses in tuberculosis patients (TB).

Doctors with Africa CUAMM joins other Italian and international institutions to demand a cease fire as soon as possible. CUAMM is keeping services active for the people of south Sudan in seven counties and three hospitals, where we work with 17 Italians, 39 workers of different African nationalities, and about 650 South Sudanese people.
