The history of Doctors with Africa Cuamm in Sierra Leone is not so long: it began in 2012, but in 2014 the physicians had to face with the biggest Ebola epidemic ever seen.

1991 – 2002
Eleven years of civil war upset Sierra Leone; in 1999 the military intervention of United Nation becomes necessary, in order to begin disarming rebels.
2012
Doctors with Africa CUAMM starts work in Sierra Leone, in Pujehun district.
2014
March: start of the Ebola epidemic in Guinea, border country.
May: first case of Ebola in Kenema district, bordering with Pujehun, in Sierra Leone.
Extensive energy and resources are invested to control the Ebola epidemic in Pujehun district. Taking into account the outbreak of Ebola, CUAMM endeavour to provide continuity to mother and child healthcare activities, particularly at Pujehun district hospital.
