Erectile dysfunction is common in diabetes, affecting more than half of men with the condition and with a prevalence odds of approximately 3.5 times more than controls.
The study evaluated the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), type 1 and type 2, evaluating the data of 145 studies already published representing a total of almost 89,000 men. It showed that 52.5% of diabetic males in general suffer from erectile dysfunction. This symptom affects 37.5% of men with juvenile diabetes (insulin-dependent) and 66.3% of patients with diabetes type 2 (insulin resistant).
The study’s results suggest the need for improved control and treatment of the disease.
